Dear Old South Church,
Last night at a specially called July meeting of the Church Council, the members of Council voted to approve the Minister of Music Position Description (click here). Below you will find the brief posting that will appear in various musical, UCC, and Christian venues, both print and digital. The information is also being posted on our website today.
MINISTER OF MUSIC: Old South Church in Boston is eager to partner with a full-time, skilled, versatile, and faith-filled Minister of Music whose delight it is to inspire and enable a church’s worship life. Position description and how to apply available at http://www.oldsouth.org/minister-music-search.
The Minister of Music Search Committee was appointed last February by Council and has been meeting weekly since March. A time-line with tasks accomplished and still to do is a part of the Minister of Music Search webpage.
The Search Committee is not merely posting this Position Description. This will not be a passive undertaking. In the course of our information gathering over the past several months we have listened to church members and musicians, but also to many outside experts and musicians at large churches and schools of music. We have collected names of potential candidates as well as the names of persons who are networkers and influencers … people who will circulate our Position Description and, we hope, get it into the right hands. Starting today we will be reaching out personally to a list of some thirty people whose names we have gathered. The list is perhaps equally divided between prospective candidates and influencers/networkers.
We hope you, too, will take it upon yourself to circulate this Position Description.
Please know that for the members of the Minister of Music Search Committee this is a prayerful and awesome responsibility. We do not take lightly the prospect of securing a successor to the late, great, Prince Harry Lyn Huff.
This evening at the concluding Festival Worship Service of the UCC Musicians Association 2017 Conference (held in Boston this year ), Prince Harry will be remembered. Members of the Search Committee will be in attendance for the purpose of networking.
In addition, mark your calendars for a musical celebration of Prince Harry on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Festival Worship and a Musical Celebration Lunch following. This is the Sunday closest to Harry’s October 25th birthday.
Finally, the members of the Minister of Music Search Committee cherish your prayers as we pursue this sacred work on your behalf.
Warmly and gratefully,
Rev. Nancy Taylor
