NOW AVAILABLE: Old South Church in Boston, 1669-2019: A Concise Theological, Historical, & Whimsical Encyclopedia

We are thrilled to announce that Old South Church in Boston, 1669-2019: A Concise Theological, Historical, & Whimsical Encyclopedia is now available for purchase! Written by our members, ministers, and friends in celebration of our 350th anniversary, the Encyclopedia is a substantial thing, comprised of 628 pages, with 400 entries written by 100+ unique authors. It is printed on recycled paper and produced in the US.

Illustrated, with cover art by Pam Roberts, it is dedicated to our former Church Historian, Evan H. Shu, of blessed memory. It will go on sale via our Website at $25 per copy. All proceeds to benefit (G)RACE Speaks, Old South's committee on racial justice.

We have scheduled two touchless book-pick-up events at Old South for those who would welcome a destination and an excuse to get out: Wednesday, July 29, 11am to 1pm and Saturday, August 1, from 1pm to 3pm. If you are an author of one or more entries, we will take your picture, applaud and celebrate you! (Masks and social distancing required). These will be outdoors, weather permitting, or, if it is too hot or raining, indoors. We can also deliver the book to your car. You can order your copy of the Encyclopedia by clicking below.

We extend a special thanks to the members of the Tell the Story Task Force who labored away at this for several years. This was a lot of work! A million thanks to Tell the Story chairperson, Liz Morgan, without whom we could not have done this; our Project Manager, Rebecca Pasipanodya who received, posted, and edited virtually every entry; Sarah Monsma-Billings, expert in editing and publishing; Laura Walker Dunn, English teacher and lover of books; Chuck Gerlinger and Larry Bowers, attorneys and historians; Erik Gustafson, who kept our minutes; and, not least, former Church Historian, Evan H. Shu, of blessed memory.
