Old South Church to join Boston Women's March for America

On Saturday, January 21, 2017, Old South Church will join with the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ to march in the Boston Women's March for America. According to the official website for the event, "We will unite in Boston to march in solidarity with communities most affected by the hate, intolerance and acts of violence being perpetrated throughout the nation—among many are communities of women, immigrants, people of color, people who identify as LGBTQIA and people with disabilities. Ours is a peaceful, nonpartisan march."

Organized by Associate Conference Minister Wendy Vander Hart in partnership with Old South Church Senior Minister Nancy Taylor as well as Revs. June Cooper and Ruth Edens of City Mission, the Boston UCC contingent will meet at 10:30 am across from the Boston Common at the “Make Way for Ducklings” statue in the Public Garden. The group will join the march at 11:00 am. UCC marchers are asked to wear either a UCC “Be the Church” apron or another apron.

"As followers of Jesus, we are servant leaders of a servant Christ - our aprons will unify us in that message," Rev. Vander Hart wrote in a recent email. "For those who wish, and are able to purchase, the UCC apron will proclaim that message clearly." Rev. Nancy Taylor added, “All genders and gender expressions look fabulous in aprons and can stand in solidarity with women. Plus, aprons are easy to wear over bulky winter clothing!”

Old South Church will also carry a large UCC "Be the Church" banner.
