Juneteenth

Juneteenth is an annual holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a celebration of Black culture, heritage, and freedom. We have two opportunities to observe the holiday:

MONUMENTAL ONE-DAY RETREAT

 June 17, 8:45am - 4pm (lunch provided) | All Ages | Free (donations accepted)

"Wee the People yellow, black, white and grey cartoon with kids holding up signs about freedom"What are monuments for? Whose stories do they hold up for celebration? Whose stories do they erase or bury?

  • In our first workshop of the day, led by Wee The People Boston's Francie LaTour, we explore statues and monuments (famous and not so famous), question what they mean, and reimagine how they can celebrate values of community, equity, and justice. Hands-on making for all ages!
  • Our day continues with a second workshop for adults focusing on monuments and representation at Old South, led by Old South pastors and leaders, along with our guest. Children will have their own afternoon activities with Children's Ministries staff.
