On May 8th we celebrate Phillis Wheatley, one of the saints of this church who was stolen from Africa, suffered the Middle Passage, was sold into slavery, and triumphed through her awesome wit and the mighty power of her pen. Join us for First or Festival Worship, featuring guest preacher Rev. Emmett G. Price III, an internationally-recognized expert on Black Music & Culture, Afro-Diasporic sacred & secular expressions serves as the inaugural dean of Berklee College of Music's Africana Studies. This service includes the presentation of the Open Door Awards. Weather permitting we will visit the statue of Phillis Wheatley (Commonwealth Avenue Mall) following both services.
