I would describe our Monday Evening Book Group as a continuing journey to some Canterbury of our choosing -- a goal that's defined and redefined each time we meet. One personally memorable set of discussions centered on the old familiar Parables, whose meaning and power were greatly expanded when considered from the point of view of a Jewish New Testament scholar (who we later got to meet). My fellow pilgrims are the special sauce that makes it all work. They are as welcoming, diverse, profound, humorous -- and occasionally raucous -- as any of Chaucer's companions. Our Theologian-in Residence, Don Wells, keeps us (roughly) on track, but with a very light touch, which allows us to cover a lot of interesting ground while on our way.
